Randomized controlled trial of the effect of intravenous iron on anaemia in Malawian pregnant women (REVAMP): Observation Cohort
Start and End dates: 2018 to 2022
Source of Funding: Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation ($0.75 million)
This is a cohort study to assess the diagnostic accuracy of non-invasive haemoglobin measurement use pulse oximetry approach (Sphb) and to compare the outcomes of the REVAMP trial cohort (See REVAMP) to determine whether women who had moderate to severe anaemia at baseline and received intravenous (IV) iron intervention during pregnancy have comparable maternal and infant outcomes as their initially non-anaemic counterparts. We are recruiting 238 pregnant women during their second trimester who are non-anaemic and following them to delivery and also until their infant is 1 year of age in Zomba and Blantyre, Malawi.
