Iron bioavailability from fortified cereals in Malawian infants

This was a single-blind randomized controlled cross-over trial investigating the impact of higher legume and whole grain content in infant cereals on iron bioavailability in Malawian infants aged 6-14 months. We administered in random order over 2 phases separated by 14 days, 5 test cereals containing either ferrous fumarate or ferrous bisglycinate intrinsically labelled with stable isotopes in order to assess fractional iron absorption and markers of iron and inflammation status.
